Sunday: October 12: The Learning TreeThis 1969 Gordon Parks movie made history as one of the first films recognized on the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry. The Delaware Art Museum will be showing this timeless classic for FREE at 1:30 p.m. This autobiographical film takes viewers to Kansas in the 1920s through the eyes of a black teenager. The pressures of being a man of color in small-town America, as well as family relationships, fears, and frustrations force this teenager to suddenly leave his childhood behind and become a man. Premiered in 1976, Leadbelly is the story of Huddie Ledbetter, a folksinger with a rough past, serving sentences for the murder of chain gangs in Louisiana and Texas, and a stabbing in New York. This 12-string guitar player proved to be a living legend in the music world, despite his violent and troubled life. This movie is rated PG and is 126 minutes long. Take a hike through the zoo after dark, have a light snack, and make a craft. Breakfast will be provided in the morning. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. on Sunday.
